Starting counselling can raise practical questions. What will I be asked? How much do I have to say? What happens to the information I share? At FRC Canada, the first conversation gives you space to ask those questions and consider whether working with the clinician feels right for you.
You can begin with what brought you to counselling and what you would like help with. You do not have to start by describing a difficult event in detail. Your clinician will explain the information needed for assessment and safety, and discuss possible next steps with you.
Before treatment, your clinician explains consent, confidentiality and its legal and professional limits. You can ask what is recorded, who may access information and how any authorised sharing would work. Keep ordinary email enquiries general and ask administration for a secure pathway before sending health information.
The approach and pace of care are discussed together. You can ask questions, request a pause or discuss alternatives. EMDR may be an option when clinically appropriate, following assessment and preparation. No single approach suits everyone, and treatment does not guarantee a particular outcome.
Virtual appointments are available to eligible clients in Ontario, with psychotherapy currently offered in English. Your clinician considers your location, privacy, technology and suitability before treatment. Appointments outside a conventional workday depend on availability.
To get started, review the service information and current Jane appointment options. To join the waitlist, create your FRC Canada client account first, sign in and add yourself to the waitlist. Account registration and waitlist requests do not confirm an appointment.
