Trauma-focused care
EMDR therapy in Ontario
Explore EMDR with Jeffrey Kentel, MTS, MA, RP, an EMDR Certified Clinician.
FRC Canada offers enquiries and appointment booking for eligible clients in Ontario seeking trauma-focused care. EMDR is one option that may be discussed as part of an individual assessment and treatment plan.
What is EMDR?
Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing is a structured psychotherapy approach used in trauma treatment. It includes history-taking, planning and preparation as well as work with distressing memories. Eye movements, sounds or taps may be used during parts of treatment; these are components of a broader process.
Preparation comes first
The early work involves understanding your goals, discussing whether the approach fits and preparing ways to manage distress. You can ask questions, discuss alternatives and tell your therapist when you need to pause. The pace and number of appointments vary between people.
These general descriptions draw on the EMDR International Association’s explanation of experiencing EMDR and the National Center for PTSD’s EMDR information.
Discuss virtual suitability
Ask your clinician whether virtual EMDR is suitable for you. Privacy, technology, your location and an appropriate support plan need consideration before treatment. A booking enquiry does not establish that EMDR is the right approach for your circumstances.
