Virtual care in Ontario

First responder counselling in Ontario

Counselling for the person behind the uniform—and the family beside them.

FRC Canada welcomes enquiries from first responders, public safety personnel, helping professionals and their families. Virtual appointments are available to eligible clients in Ontario, with suitability and location eligibility confirmed individually.

Care that recognises the context of service

You may want to discuss a particular experience, the accumulated demands of work, relationships or another concern. Our approach begins with the individual: your circumstances, preferences and goals guide the conversation about care.

When the demands of service follow you home

You might be looking for support with accumulated stress, difficult memories, feeling constantly on alert, sleep concerns, irritability, grief, emotional distance or strain in relationships. You may also simply want a private space to make sense of what has changed. These experiences do not tell us, on their own, what treatment you need; your clinician will assess your circumstances with you.

Understanding culture while listening to you

We are establishing a First Responder Volunteer Advisory Council so clinicians can learn about the language, responsibilities and working conditions of the helping professions. Those conversations will concern occupational culture, with no patient discussions or access to client information. Your own experience remains central to your care.

Choice, confidentiality and a familiar setting

Your first session offers a chance to meet your therapist and consider the fit. You choose what you feel ready to share, and can ask questions, decline a topic or request a pause. Your clinician will explain confidentiality, its limits and any proposed treatment before proceeding.

For some people, home is where they feel most secure. Virtual appointments can make it possible to attend from a familiar, private setting, where suitable. We offer scheduling options beyond a conventional workday, subject to clinician availability, to accommodate rotating shifts.

Who can contact us?

  • Police officers, firefighters, paramedics and emergency communications professionals.
  • Correctional officers, probation and parole officers, border services personnel and other public safety professionals.
  • Healthcare and social-service professionals, search and rescue personnel and community outreach workers.
  • Canadian Armed Forces members, reservists, veterans and Canadian Coast Guard personnel.
  • Spouses, partners and family members.

See our Who We Support page for the communities we welcome. Contacting us does not require you to decide which treatment you need in advance.

Explore counselling options

Our services include individual psychotherapy, trauma-focused care and support for couples and families. EMDR may be discussed when clinically appropriate. Your clinician will explain available options, their professional scope and the consent process before treatment.

  2. Confirm clinician availability, your location and service suitability.
  3. Ask about fees, session length, cancellation terms and privacy before booking.

Insurance coverage varies. Ask your insurer whether services from a Registered Psychotherapist are covered and whether a referral is needed. Administration can answer questions about fees and receipt arrangements.
